Master planned communities have been on the mind for a moment. I (to clarify, Arek) was in Palm Springs a few weekends back for a much-needed breather, and on my way back up to LA, I drove past the site for Contino, Disney’s planned community in Rancho Mirage. I spent some time digging into Contino and planned communities in general once back. Alosant was naturally a startup that came up in that search process.

📖 Founder Story
The idea for Alosant emerged in 2017 when a developer behind Rancho Mission Viejo recognized a growing challenge in large-scale residential communities: there was no centralized, digital method of streamlining resident engagement. He partnered with Alosant CEO April LaMon and co-founder Mike Swanson to create RanchLife, an app designed to unify community interactions under one branded interface. This became the foundation of Alosant, which is now deployed in over 100 master-planned communities.

For many homebuyers, moving into an MPC isn’t just about finding a house—it’s about stepping into a ready-made lifestyle. These communities, like Rancho Mission Viejo in California or Lakewood Ranch in Florida, function like self-contained towns. With parks, pools, event spaces, and even retail centers woven in, there’s a lot to like. But as MPCs grow in size and complexity, so does the challenge of keeping residents informed and engaged.
Alosant sits at the intersection of real estate, technology, and consumer experience, addressing a gap in community engagement for MPCs. Given social media’s unregulated nature as a medium for neighborhood communication, residents increasingly seek controlled, ad-free platforms where they can interact with their communities. For property developers, the data insights Alosant provides can help understand engagement trends, amenity usage, and prospective buyer behavior. Alosant’s ability to integrate event management, reservations, and access control into a single system makes it a foundational tool for community operations for both sides of the market.
