Transforming healthcare administration

Anterior believes in reducing healthcare administrative work, for the benefit of both clinician and patient. Its current goal is to make prior authorization, or approval from insurance, invisible. It’s taking on the challenge through Florence, an AI co-pilot for clinicians’ workflows, such as gathering medical documentation for insurance. On top of this offering, Anterior is HIPAA compliant and HITRUST certified, making the platform secure for use in the healthcare space.

🔮 Our Analysis

Navigating healthcare’s administrative landscape has long been a challenge for clinicians, often detracting from the quality and efficiency of patient care. The process is rife with inefficiencies and manual paperwork, creating additional costs and delays.

More specifically, prior authorization is a significant pain point in healthcare. It’s the process by which insurers determine whether certain treatments or medications are necessary before granting approval, often resulting in delays for patients and extra work for clinicians. In fact, eight in 10 physicians report that prior authorization can lead to patients completely abandoning a prescribed course of care.

Anterior (formerly Co:Helm) is addressing this issue by leveraging AI to automate critical administrative tasks. Florence, its AI clinical co-pilot, integrates with existing healthcare workflows to manage prior authorizations and other time-consuming tasks. By doing so, Anterior enables clinicians to reduce overhead and focus on patient care instead of administrative burdens.

While prior authorizations are its current focus, Anterior's platform has wider potential applications in streamlining various other administrative processes. The company is still in its early stages (with a waitlist still gating access). Still, with $20 million in fresh funding and a team half comprised of doctors and nurses, it sits in a unique position to take on a relatively untouched legacy market with a $950 billion burden.
